After Modern Dog magazine ran a feature on Cesar Millan,

I am so disappointed to see such a wonderful magazine feature someone who has taken dog training back 20 years, using outdated methods with no regard to current research on how dogs learn. Milan has no knowledge of canine learning theory, and uses methods that work quickly for his program. While this works for some people who view dogs as "just" an animal without feelings, it saddens me to see the terrified and confused dogs on Cesar's show, and his inability to read the dogs signals.

Having Cesar profiled in your mag (which I love) gives this fella more "face time" with the public. I would like to see Modern Dog support and promote trainers who don't need a editor's note or use and apply outdated alpha techniques in their "training".

I don't appreciate this article, nor do i appreciate the editor's note at the start. this man deserves no recognition whatsoever. as a trainer and behaviourist student, it is so incredibly frustrating to have clients say on a regular basis 'but the dog whisperer said...' his techniques are dated, have been proven to be wrong, and if attempted by many people downright dangerous! using 'pack theory' techniques do nothing more than open people up to bites from their pets. i just returned from a paba seminar at the university of guelph and was shown videos of him claiming the dog was trying to dominate a cat, a tin bowl, and a flashlight of all things! it would be laughable if i didn't know people believed this garbage. i can't believe that people actually believe this kind of crap! i have personally witnessed a beautiful dog, perfectly fine behaviourally be ruined and thus surrendered as a result of a client following the advice of cesar milan on tv as opposed to what i recommended. i'm sure many trainers have seen this and hope and pray that pet magazines and media everywhere will start to get with the program and help to save so many animals from being destroyed, surrendered, and sometimes even killed as a result of this man. shameful.
And to those of you that think that he has a 'wonderful' connection with dogs all i can say is try watching the show with the tv on mute and watch the body language of the dogs he is dealing with. even people with no knowledge of canine body language will see that what he does to those poor animals causes them nothing but fear, plain and simple. a happy dog should have it's tail slowly wagging side to side, calm/loose stance, relaxed muscles, a relaxed face, and happy/eager looking eyes. you will see none of this from the dogs on his show. as an aside, aggression stems from fear most of the time, and trying to 'dominate' a dog that is fearful is probably the worst thing that you can do. why would you want your dog to fear you? shouldn't your dog love, respect, and be happy to see you always? it's so sad the torture people put their pets through as a result of watching this man.

I suggest they read http://www.4pawsu.com/cesarfans.htm "Answering the fans" to get some more understanding of how dogs learn. Also try turning off the tv so they are not listening to his hypnotic voice full of his own confidence, but instead may hopefully see the dogs telling their own story.
He winds dogs up and then forces them down. He also puts children and owners in situations where they can be bitten.
I wish we could instead have an interview with a good behaviourist who will explain how they help aggression cases. Instead of what is unfortunately, a man who takes dog training, dog behaviour and helping dogs and owners back at least 20 years, which is well nigh unforgiveable.

It is so sad to think they do.

Yes, that is so very sad. His supporters sadly don't get how that can happen at all.
I know of one dog who also was put to sleep as a direct result of his owners following his methods.
